Vacation English Plus is a dynamic, adventure-filled English language programme that allows students to improve their English while experiencing life in Africa’s leading city. Set in Cape Town, this programme combines real-world English learning, cultural immersion, and exciting excursions, giving students the opportunity to develop language skills naturally in a multilingual, multicultural environment.
Rather than learning English only in the classroom, students practise communication skills every day — with teachers, local residents, and fellow international students — gaining confidence, fluency, and cultural awareness through lived experience.
***
The programme is based in Sea Point, one of Cape Town’s oldest and most vibrant suburbs. This unique area blends residential life with business, leisure, and tourism, making it both lively and safe. Its proximity to the beach, public swimming pools, and some of the city’s most desirable neighbourhoods creates an ideal environment for international students.
Sea Point offers easy access to Cape Town’s natural beauty and cultural highlights while providing a comfortable base for daily learning and exploration.
***
English learning is delivered through interactive, experiential teaching led by qualified and experienced language teachers. Lessons are practical, engaging, and tailored to students’ language levels, with a strong focus on communication rather than rote memorisation.
For students aged 16 and over, classes may include other adult learners at the school, enriching discussions and broadening perspectives. This mixed-age learning environment reflects real-world communication, helping students build confidence speaking English in diverse social and professional contexts.
***
Language development continues outside the classroom through carefully designed activities and excursions. Students practise English in authentic settings — ordering food, asking questions, participating in group discussions, and interacting with locals — making learning natural and memorable.
***
Through classroom discussions, guided excursions, and interaction with teachers and locals, students gain exposure to South Africa’s complex and fascinating history. Possible visits include:
Robben Island
South African Museum
Slave Lodge Museum
These experiences give students deeper insight into the country’s past and present, helping them better understand the cultural and historical context behind the language they are learning.
***
Language learning is enhanced through enjoyable social activities, all conducted in English. These experiences help students develop confidence, friendships, and social fluency while exploring the city.
Activities may include:
Shopping and city exploration
Meals out in Cape Town
Mini-golf, bowling, and ice-skating
Games evenings at the school
These relaxed settings allow students to practise conversational English while having fun and building lasting connections.
***
Cape Town’s natural environment plays a central role in the programme. Students experience South Africa’s remarkable scenery, fauna, and flora through excursions to:
Table Mountain
Boulders Beach (penguin colony)
Cape Peninsula
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens
These outings deepen students’ appreciation for environmental conservation while offering unforgettable learning moments in English.
