Course Description

The English Through Academic Subjects programme at Summer Boarding College at Eton College is designed with 12-to 16-year-olds in mind.  The programs consist of four tracks, each with the goal to improve English proficiency through learning subject material.

The weekly program consists of 20 hours of tuition per week in their chosen subject.  Each week ends with a Time to Shine presentation that allows students the chance to demonstrate their learning and develop their presentation skills. Presentations take place in Jafar Hall, Eton College’s famous debating chamber.  Classes have a maximum of 15 students each.

Mathematics is a varied subject that provides necessary background for entering a wide range of professional and academic fields. Mathematics students at Eton learn material that is necessary not only for further study in mathematics but also for engineering, natural sciences, and computer science.

The language skills acquired during the mathematics course enable students to study both pure and applied mathematics. Subjects studied include: Algorithms, Graph Theory, Kinematics, Codes, Fibonacci and the Golden Ratio, Fractals, Group Theory, Complex Numbers, Conic Sections, and Probability.

For Time to Shine, mathematics students will work together to create a research project and present it for their classmates. There are also opportunities to participate in fun class-wide competitions.
