Using project-based learning with an emphasis on emerging trends in Medicine, you will research and explore real-world scenarios from the point of view of a General Practitioner, you will work alongside other academically talented participants through testing, diagnosis, research and treatment plans.

Our Career Insights accommodation, Astor College, is an award-winning dynamic facility which is also linked to University College London (UCL). This is the ideal place to stay if it excites you to be surrounded by world-leading education institutions.
Just a four-minute walk from Goodge Street Underground Station, and a twelve-minute walk from The British Museum, The British Library and Russell Square, the accommodation is perfectly located for social and cultural activities.
Participants stay in comfortable single, en-suite bedrooms with access to common rooms and social spaces with pool tables and quiet study areas, perfect for downtime.
Meals
Breakfast and dinner are provided in our accommodation by catering teams that provide meals for university students during term time. The staff are well accustomed to a variety of dietary requirements and will be happy to advise which foods are appropriate for you.
If you have a food allergy, we request that you speak to staff at mealtimes to confirm allergens as an additional precautionary measure, though your dietary information is shared with the catering teams in advance of your arrival.
Pocket Money
Money we recommend that participants bring £80 per week to cover
lunch each day, plus any souvenirs that they may wish to purchase.
Various banks and ATMs are available throughout London, and Visa and
Mastercard are widely accepted.
Participants should arrive between 2 pm and 5 pm on the first Sunday of the programme. Our team will be ready and waiting to welcome you, register you, and show you to your accommodation. Please note that your accommodation may not be ready until 3pm.
If you are arriving at London Heathrow Airport, we are able to offer a shared airport transfer service. This is a chaperoned service departing from London Heathrow Airport Terminal 3 and travelling directly to the colleges in Cambridge/Oxford. Do not worry if you will be arriving to any other Heathrow terminal - our dedicated pastoral team will be there to meet you and escort to Terminal 3 for departure to your college
The transfers depart at 11:00, 14:00 and 17:00 on the Sunday of arrivals. On the final Saturday of the programme, the transfers to London Heathrow Airport depart at 07:00 and 12:00. This will be available to book for a fee per journey after enrolment.
Specific details, such as contact numbers, are shared with participants nearer the time of the programme.
If you are arriving at another airport, or by alternative means, further details about arrivals and departures are shared in your Welcome Pack, sent with your confirmation of enrolment.

Interactive workshops and networking events offer you the opportunity to learn from the professionals, to see where you would best fit in the industry.
You will explore concepts and share ideas in small groups of like-minded and ambitious peers from around the world. In classes averaging 7 students, you will be guided by expert project leads who offer an insight into their industry. Our rigorous vetting process guarantees that all participants are taught by engaging and supportive educators who are, most of all, enthusiastic about sharing their expertise to ensure our summer school teaching is of the highest quality. Medical Research and Theory: You will revisit the principles of scientific methods working through various stages of medical research. You will use skills to investigate a specific medical condition, using relevant real-world data to explore diagnosis, treatment plans and social implications. In this module, you will learn how to use your insights to inform decision making. You will take the lead to discuss and present your findings.
Practical Experience: Getting out and about across London to receive hands-on, practical experience will help you decide where you best fit in the world of medicine. With site visits to Old Operating Theatre, Anaesthesia Heritage Centre and The Science Museum, you will get to see dramatic changes in the field and the huge impact technology is having on the world of medicine. You will have opportunities to explore new technologies including advanced telemedicine, artificial intelligence, wearable technology and 3D printing.
Real-World Project: You will take the principles of your medical condition and use them to work through diagnosis and a treatment plan from the point of view of a general practitioner. You will work through patient history with discussion and debrief, using patient case studies, developing your own patient case file.
Professional Development: Bridging the gap between education and the world of work, this module offers an insight into the jobs in our industries now, and in the future. These sessions are made up of guest lectures, expert panel discussions and essential skill building workshops like a pitching master class, personal brand development, communication, public speaking and collaborative thinking. 1:1 coaching sessions allow for personal feedback and the creation of a career plan, something that will continue to be useful long after you finish the Career Insights programme.
