Course Description: Exceptional Summer Pre-College Engineering Program for High Schoolers at University of Toronto, Canada

Toronto Pre-College Summer School (Ages 15–18)

Engineering & Innovation at the University of Toronto *

The Toronto Pre-College Summer School offers ambitious students aged 15–18 a unique opportunity to experience university life and explore the exciting world of engineering at the prestigious University of Toronto.

Set in one of the world’s most innovative and diverse cities, this two-week academic programme combines university-level teaching, hands-on projects, and global networking. Students gain a deeper understanding of how engineers design, build, and improve the systems that shape our everyday lives — from sustainable energy to modern infrastructure.

***

Academic Overview *

Engineering connects science, mathematics, and creativity to solve real-world challenges. This course introduces students to the principles of modern engineering through a balance of theory, experimentation, and collaboration.

Under the guidance of experienced tutors, participants learn to analyse systems, develop practical designs, and think critically about how innovation can drive progress in today’s world. Toronto’s thriving technology and research landscape makes it the perfect environment to explore the future of engineering.

***

Module Examples

  • Fundamentals of Engineering Design: Learn the process of problem-solving and design thinking, from concept to prototype.

  • Mechanics and Structural Engineering: Understand how structures stand, move, and bear loads using core physics and mathematical principles.

  • Electrical and Computer Systems: Explore circuitry, control systems, and the basics of computer engineering.

  • Environmental and Sustainable Engineering: Examine how engineers address global sustainability challenges, including renewable energy and smart cities.

  • Materials Science and Manufacturing: Discover how materials are designed, tested, and selected for real-world applications.

Each module connects theoretical concepts to practical outcomes, helping students understand how engineering solutions impact society and the environment.
