Location

Ely is a beautiful, peaceful city in the heart of the Cambridgeshire countryside – the ideal setting for this age group. It is 25 km north of Cambridge and 120 km from London.With a population of only 20,000 people, Ely feels more like a village than a city – everything is close by and the atmosphere is friendly

Its magnificent cathedral, established in 1803, dominates the city and makes one of the finest and most unspoilt medieval cities in England. Many of the ancient buildings are part of King’s teaching centre and student residences.

The campus of King’s Ely boarding school has separate girls’ and boys’ residential buildings, student common rooms, dining room, 15 classrooms, halls for plays and social gatherings, sports hall and gymnasium, heated outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, outside playing fields and Arts and Crafts room.

Course Description

Awe-Inspiring English Summer camps provide classes at a wide range of levels. Students are tested in advance and placed in the right class to meet their learning needs. In addition, we also provide weekly progress testing so we can move students up levels as their English improves.

Students have 20 lessons/15 hours of tuition per week and fully inclusive program of engaging and fun activities including projects, games, and group work. Our teaching concentrates on improving vocabulary and speaking skills.These encourage confidence, collaboration and, of course, communication. 

Accommodation & Food

The King’s Ely campus offers comfortable student accommodation. As it is a campus-based program, all students attending live in residences within easy walk of the course centre.

There are up to 150 comfortable residential beds in good-sized rooms, with separate buildings for boys and girls.

All rooms are shared but they vary between the residential houses. Most are twins only, some are rooms for up to 6 students, and a few have large dorm rooms with up to 10 beds. All bathrooms and showers are shared.

Clothes laundry is provided as part of the program. King’s Ely staff will wash students’ clothes at least once per week. Bed linen is provided at the residence and will be changed and washed once each week.

All meals are served in the magnificent mediaeval beamed dining hall. There is a wide choice of hot and cold food and a vegetarian option for every meal. Packed lunches are provided on excursion days. At bedtimes, there is also a late snack (soft drinks, cookies and cake). Please inform us if you have special dietary requirements.

Getting to see England is a powerful aid to learning and understanding the English language – that’s why all summer camp excursions are included in the course price.At the school, excursions are held on Wednesdays, Friday afternoons, and Sundays Typical destinations include London, Windsor Castle, Oxford and Christ Church College, Cambridge, Brighton, Warwick Castle, Stratford-upon-Avon, Theme parks and Leeds Castle so plenty of sightseeing can be done!

London Heathrow (LHR) and London Stansted (STN) are the nearby airports to King’s Ely Boarding School in Cambridge. If you travel from and to those airports on a Sunday, transfers are being done by our team. Please keep in touch with us.

**London **: Thames river cruise, photo ops at Tower of London, Westminster sights including Big Ben and Parliament, lunch in St. James’s Park. Souvenir shopping on Oxford Street; Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square visit.

British Museum, lunch in Russell Square, Covent Garden visit.

City walk for first-time visitors; Science Museum, Hyde Park, and South Kensington shopping for others.

**Cambridge **: City walking tour, climb Great St Mary’s Church tower, shopping at Grand Arcade. Punting on the River Cam and a museum visit on.

Chessington World of Adventures: Family theme park with rollercoasters, a zoo, and an aquarium.

  • Airport Transfers: Included for Heathrow and Stansted arrivals/departures on Sundays.

  • Arrival/departure time: Arrive by 20:00 on Sunday before course; depart on Sunday after course.

  • Aim for 14:00-17:00 on Sunday at accommodation.

  • For transfers to or from Gatwick or Luton airports on Sundays a supplement is charged.

  • Inform us if arranging your own transfer to accommodation.

  • Our team meets you at the airport, with transport to accommodation.

  • Unaccompanied Minors (UM): Check airline rules for under 18 travel; provide our contact details.

Typical Day

Morning Lessons (09:00-10:30): Focus on "A true friend" with past tenses and speaking practice.

Late Morning Lessons (11:00-12:30): London-themed reading race.

  • 15:15-17:30: Visit to Ely city center.

Evening Activity (19:15-20:30): Disco.

  • Gatwick Airport Transfer: 215 GBP/one-way for a car to Cambridge, and 255 GBP/one-way for a car to Sir Edward in Ely.

  • Pocket Money Advice: Students should bring about £80 per week for personal expenses like souvenirs and snacks. For younger students at residential camps, it's advised to deposit money in the 'school bank' for safekeeping, accessible at set times.
