Course Description: Nike Tennis Camp at Bradfield College

🎓 Course Overview

The Nike Tennis Camp at Bradfield College is a residential summer camp for boys and girls aged 10–17 of all abilities. With up to 24 hours of tennis coaching and match play each week on indoor acrylic, clay and hard courts, it offers quality coaching alongside excursions, evening activities and an international community of players.

Players are assessed on arrival and grouped by age and ability, and each player receives an individual coaching review, a certificate and a report to take home.

📚 Academic Content

Tennis Coaching Programme

Players train twice a day in small groups with high-performance coaches, at a maximum coach-to-player ratio of 1:6, with individual feedback in every session. Each week includes competitive matches on tournament day and an awards ceremony.

The programme is led by Tennis Director Gill Lemore, a former ATP Tour player who has led the UK camps for more than 13 years, and holds USPTA Qualified Professional, PTR France Instructor and Level 4 LTA Performance Coach qualifications.

Choose Your Camp Option

Every player receives the same amount of tennis coaching; the difference lies in how the afternoons are spent:

  • Total Tennis: up to 8 hours a week of tennis workshops on topics such as nutrition, teamwork, goal-setting, communication and match analysis, giving an insight into the lifestyle and mindset of a professional.

  • Tennis + English: up to 13 hours a week of English lessons taught by qualified teachers using the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) method, with tennis-themed projects and discussions. Ideal for international players who want to build their confidence in English.

The Shape of the Day

Each day follows a simple, active rhythm: breakfast and a morning meeting, followed by the first tennis session; lunch, then workshops or English lessons in the afternoon; and dinner followed by a second tennis session before downtime and the evening programme.

📍 Campus & Location

Bradfield College is a leading English independent school near Reading, with a historic campus and modern sports facilities. It is about 48 miles (77 km) from central London; London Heathrow is 35 miles (56 km) away and London Gatwick 71 miles (114 km). Tennis is played on indoor acrylic, clay and hard courts.

🏫 Accommodation & Meals

This is a fully residential camp. Players live on site at Bradfield College in a mix of single and shared bedrooms, and all meals are provided: three meals a day plus an evening snack. Outside training, players can unwind and make friends in the players' lounge.

🚌 Excursions & Activities

Excursions are built into every camp:

  • London (every other week): a city tour taking in Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, a ride on the Thames and time for shopping.

  • Oxford (every other week): a tour of the historic university city.

  • Theme park (two-week camps only): a full day of rides and fairground games at a major UK theme park.

Evenings bring a varied activities programme, and players can relax and socialise in the players' lounge. Weekly awards ceremonies celebrate effort and achievement in front of peers and staff.
