This fully immersive 3-week residential summer programme is designed for students aged 16–18 with English as a second language, who want to improve their language skills while experiencing life in an international academic environment.
Set in Scotland’s most historic university town, the programme combines:

A highly international student community
Students develop fluency, confidence, and real-world communication skills through both classroom learning and daily interaction.
Students live and study at St Salvator’s Halls of Residence, University of St Andrews, within a secure and self-contained residential setting.
Located just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre
Easy access to cafés, shops, and restaurants
Set in a peaceful location with private gardens and coastal views
The programme hosts students from over 100 nationalities, with no more than 10% from any one country.
Native and non-native English speakers are mixed throughout the programme, creating a fully immersive English-speaking environment.
This programme is designed for students with English as a second language, with classes structured to support a range of ability levels.
Students will:
Be placed into classes based on their current level
Learn alongside peers of similar ability
Develop skills progressively in a supportive environment
All students complete a British Council English Language Test before arrival to ensure accurate class placement.
Students follow a balanced academic structure by selecting:
English Language (core subject)
One elective course
3 hours of English language classes each weekday morning
Interactive, topic-based lessons
Real-world communication activities
Classes are led by experienced teachers specialising in English as a second language (ESL).
Over the three weeks, students are fully immersed in English, developing all core language skills through structured learning and daily use.

Students take part in a varied programme of excursions throughout the three weeks.
Edinburgh – Guided tour including landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile, followed by free time
Glasgow – Visit Kelvingrove Art Gallery or the University of Glasgow, followed by city exploration
Glamis Castle
Paddleboarding and sea kayaking (strong swimmers required)
St Andrews town tour (cathedral, castle, coastal paths)
Wild Shores Aqua Park (strong swimmers required)
All trips are fully organised and supervised.
Students choose one elective, which takes place four afternoons per week, allowing them to develop new skills alongside their language studies.
Students of all levels:
Work with professional coaches
Develop technique, match play, and fitness
Learn rules and sportsmanship
Programme concludes with a tennis tournament.
Students explore filmmaking through:
Scriptwriting, directing, and editing
Camera operation and production
Creating short films in teams
Final projects are presented in a film screening.
Students:
Develop performance skills through workshops
Explore voice, movement, and improvisation
Create and perform a final production
Students:
Train with PGA-qualified instructors
Use professional facilities
Develop skills at all levels
Additional Golf Students who have a low handicap and wish to play some of St Andrews Links courses may opt to miss cultural trips in order to increase the time spent on the course. This will be at an additional cost to the student but will allow those who are good golfers to maximise their golfing experience in the home of golf and use the coaching offered to take full advantage of some of the worlds best championship courses.
Advanced players may access championship-level courses.
