Course Description: Oxford Mathematics Online Summer Course

Our online programmes deliver an academically rigorous curriculum led by tutors from leading universities. We provide a structured, live learning environment where students can interact in real-time with their peers and tutors. Families can feel confident in a trusted organisation known for high teaching standards, small class sizes (maximum 15 students), and a supportive digital community.

Intrigued by mathematical problems? The Online Mathematics Academy offers the perfect opportunity to explore advanced concepts in mathematics that go far beyond the school curriculum.

Through live, interactive tutorials (not pre-recorded), you will explore advanced calculus, master complex algebra, and uncover the mysteries of number theory. Guided by expert tutors from leading universities such as Oxford and Cambridge, you will code algorithms, apply probability to real-world scenarios, and discover the practical applications of maths across diverse global industries.

Course Content & Learning Objectives

1. Algebra

  • Discover how and why symbols are used in algebraic manipulations to solve complex problems.

  • Advanced Applications: Examine advanced simultaneous equations and explore the role of algebra in matrices and high-level computations.

2. Proof

  • Learn what constitutes a formal mathematical proof and examine the different types used in academic mathematics.

  • Collaborative Analysis: Annotate and critique proofs created by peers to understand the logic and rigour required at the university level.

3. Number Theory

  • Familiarise yourself with the foundational properties of numbers and the history of number theory.

  • Brainstorming: Present the unique properties of a specific type of number to the class, exploring prime numbers, integers, and beyond.

4. Probability

  • Explore the deep relationship between probability and statistics, focusing on scenarios with unique or non-intuitive outcomes.

  • Logic: Use mathematical reasoning to navigate uncertainty and predict outcomes in various theoretical and real-world models.

5. Statistics

  • Discover key statistical concepts that drive data analysis in the modern world.

  • Worked Examples: Annotate examples of statistical operations in use to understand how data is interpreted and presented professionally.

6. Calculus

  • Investigate the fundamental theorem of calculus and its vital importance in physics and engineering.

  • Technical Mastery: Annotate examples of differentiation and integration, explaining the logic behind each step of the process.

7. Mechanics

  • Investigate the key principles of mechanics, focusing on the physical laws that govern movement and force.

  • Physics Integration: Examine the mathematical processes involved in applying these principles to solve engineering and scientific problems.

8. Cryptography

  • Learn the mathematical foundations of secure communication and data protection.

  • Project: Put theory into practice by creating your own original code using the sophisticated principles of cryptography.

9. Maths Today & Beyond

  • Present a chronological sequence of the key developments in mathematics throughout human history.

  • Contemporary Thought: Summarise the work of modern thinkers in the field and discuss how mathematics is evolving in the 21st century.

10. Final Challenge: Design a Code-Breaking Escape Room

  • Apply everything you have learned throughout the course to design a code-breaking escape room.

  • Integration: Use mathematical puzzles, problem questions, and logic to challenge your peers and demonstrate your mastery of the curriculum.
