Accommodations

All participants attending our Cambridge/Oxford programmes will reside in central colleges of Cambridge/Oxford University. All rooms are single occupancy with shared bathroom facilities, typically at a one bathroom ratio per four participants. Some ensuite facilities are available, with priority given to participants with additional needs. Where bathroom facilities are shared, participants are accommodated by gender on separate corridors. Where ensuite facilities are provided, corridors may be mixed gender. The accommodation is used by undergraduate students during term time and is therefore designed to support study, rather than cater to luxury. Many of the buildings are over 500 years old and therefore predate air conditioning quite significantly. All accommodation is secured with a lock, and your key will be provided during registration. Housekeeping staff also have access to your room to replace towels etc.

*A few weeks before their arrival, all participants will be assigned to a college based on their dates and topic preferences. Meals As an Immerse student, you will experience formal dinner three times during your stay – once per week in Cambridge, as well as in an Oxford University college on the excursion day. Formal hall is truly a memorable occasion, so remember to bring some smart clothes! Pocket Money Money we recommend that participants bring £80 per week to cover lunch each day, plus any souvenirs that they may wish to purchase. Various banks and ATMs are available throughout Cambridge, and Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted.

Lesson Plan

The camp is an award-winning academic summer school that offers programs for students aged 13 to 15 in prestigious academic institutions. The goal of this program is to give academically rigorous content that expands participants' knowledge and love for their chosen field. The program also provides young varied and essential views into what it would be like to study at university through 40 hours of academic sessions over the two week.

Individual work, referred to as the "Personal Project" in this curriculum, is required. This is usually an essay or a presentation given on the last day of the program. Participants will get comments on their work, which may be included the final assessment of the participant.

International relations is a fascinating, multidisciplinary study that examines past, current, and future local, regional, and global relationships. This topic involves a working knowledge of geography, economics, politics, history, psychology, and math. The Immerse Education International Relations program's goal is to expose participants to the fundamentals of the topic and to emphasize the options open to those who choose to study international relations in the future. Participants will learn about many fundamental IR theories and how to apply them to current and historical instances from across the world.

Example Modules

  • **The United Nations and Its Challengers: **This module explores the historical context of the United Nations and the failings of past models. Having analysed the institutional structure of this organisation, you will evaluate the relative significance of other international actors, debating whether globalisation reinforces or undermines the UN system.
  • Rising Powers and International Order The Case of China: By exploring policies such as the 'Made in China 2025 Strategy' and the gradual process by which China is integrating international organisations (such as the World Trade Organisation in 2001), you will explore the rising power of China and its consequences for the international order.
  • **Change and Continuity in US Foreign Policy: **Current US Foreign Policy focuses on three areas: military disengagement from the Middle East, the defence of US foreign trade interests and a challenging attitude towards Europe. You will assess these policies in the historical context of Trump's predecessors to evaluate the possible consequences of his actions.
  • Exploring International Actors: You will choose one key international actor and analyse their structure and function within the context of the International Relations theory that you have studied over the course of the programme. Then present your research as a written essay and also deliver a presentation to your peers ahead of a class discussion and questions.
