Course Description

Headington Oxford Summer School offers English classes for 13 - 16 year olds on Oxford’s beautiful campus in the UK. Headington combines English language learning, cultural excursions and activities to create an enriching summer experience. There are both traditional English language classes and combined English Through Academic Subjects.  There is a maximum of 15 students per class, and students receive 15 hours of tuition per week in addition to excursions and other activities.  Each course culminates with the Time to Shine ceremony, where students present what they have learned to their classmates.

Future Doctors is a unique and exciting program for students aged 13 - 16 who aspire to a career in health care.  This program introduces students to a range of topics relevant in medicine today, including: human biology, understanding how doctors diagnose a patient, and emergency medicine.  Soft skills developed in this course include presentation skills and critical thinking.  

Furthermore, students gain practical knowledge by completing a full first-aid training course resulting in a certificate -- a rare opportunity for students at this age level. Topics such as medical ethics are also discussed.

Outside Trips

Students participate in three excursions to top UK destinations during each two week session.

Students will broaden their academic experience with three outside excursions to nearby UK destinations, accompanied by SBC staff.  Staff will ensure that students are fully engaged in the excursions in order to make the most of their experience.  All students visit London at least once per session.  Destinations this summer include Oxford, London, and Bath.  Students will also have free time for exploring in small groups.

Food and Accommodation

At Headington Oxford, there are separate boarding houses for boys and girls.  Accommodations include a mixture of single, twin rooms, and some dormitories for 3-5 students.  All houses also have communal lounges where students can relax with friends.

Transportation

Airport transfers are available at supplementary cost.  

Covid regulations

The camp will implement all guidance prescribed by the UK at the time of the course.  This may include but is not limited to: social distancing, testing, ventilation, face masks, hand sanitising, and a limit of the number of students in one classroom.

Cancellation rules

Insurance, including for Covid, is included as part of the course fee.  In the event that students cannot travel on the course start date due to international travel restrictions (i.e. country is on UK government’s Amber or Red travel list), students will receive a full refund, postponement to a later 2022 date, or rollover to 2023 course. No additional charges will apply. 

Under other circumstances:

• A non-refundable deposit payment of £700.00 per student is due 48 hours after submitting a booking.  Cancellations must be made in writing and take effect from the date we receive such notice. 
• Where a cancellation is made more than 30 days prior to the course start date, there will be a refund of all Course Fees paid, minus the Deposit.
• In the event that a cancellation is made less than 30 days prior to the course start date, a refund will not be available, except in the case of valid visa refusal or at our sole discretion.  In this case, there will be no refund for any missed elements of the Course (including the Course itself, English Plus, Academic Options, Transfers, etc.), and further charges may be applicable.
