What's Included

Full Board - Residential Students:

  • Includes: all meals, lodging, excursions, academic course, weekend excursions, application fee $99, Emergency Medicine supplement $250

  • Excludes: optional airport pickup and drop off service (available for an additional fee)

Day Course - Commuter Students:

  • Includes: lunch, academic course, excursions, programming from 9am to 6pm, Monday-Friday, application fee $99, Emergency Medicine supplement $250

  • Excludes: lodging, breakfast, dinner, and weekend excursions (Weekend excursions can be added on for $125 per day)

Accommodations

Accommodation and Facilities:

  • Shared dorm rooms with roommates and common bathrooms.

  • Gender-segregated floors with extra-long twin beds, desks, drawers, and closets.

  • Suites with single and double rooms sharing common space, some accommodating up to six students.

  • Gender-specific common bathrooms in suites.

  • Linen pack includes bed sheets and towels; rooms equipped with a pillow and blanket.

  • Historic campus buildings without air-conditioning, but high-speed fans provided.

  • Laundry facilities available in dorms, operated by credit or debit card.

  • Resident Advisors (RAs) for support, safety, security, community building, and activity planning.

  • Additional staff on campus for round-the-clock support and emergency response.

Dining and Amenities:

  • Meals served in nearby dining hall, with access to diverse restaurants in New Haven.

  • Yale's commitment to sustainability with locally sourced, seasonal food; special diets accommodated.

  • Optional access to Payne Whitney Gym for a $25 weekly fee.

Excursions

All excursions supervised by our staff.

  • Excursions in Boston: Day trip to explore Boston's historical landmarks., walk the Freedom Trail, visit Bunker Hill Monument, and Boston Common.
  • Exploring New Haven, Connecticut: Bustling pedestrian life with shops, cafes, and top-rated restaurants like Yorkside Restaurant and Shake Shack, access to world-class museums including the Yale Peabody Museum and Yale University Art Gallery.
  • Six Flags New England Adventure: Over 100 rides and attractions, including Hurricane Harbor water park.
  • Track-Specific Excursions: Tailored trips to enhance academic programs., past visits include Yale New Haven Emergency Department, Supreme Court, and Henry C. Lee Institute.

Transportation

  • Group airport transfers: $95 each way.

  • Transfers outside of the official group pick-up and drop-off time window: $195 each way

Arrivals During Flight Window:

  • Greeted by campus staff.

  • Stay at the airport with staff until the flight window closes and all students have arrived.

  • Transported to campus after the flight window ends.

  • No immediate meeting by staff; must wait for the official arrival window.

  • For late arrivals(within reason), for those that pay a transfer fee will be met at the airport.

General Departure Information:

  • Students who opt for departure transfer (with a $95 fee) will arrive at the airport at maximum 10:00am.

  • Suitable for flights departing at 12:00pm or later.

  • With additional fee, there might be service for flights departing before 12:00pm.

Lesson Plan

Program Overview:

  • Learn practical skills such as suturing, placing a splint, stopping a bleed, taking vital signs and performing CPR
  • Train in a simulation lab where healthcare students and faculty hone and refine their life-saving skills
  • Gain valuable insight into diverse educational and career opportunities in medicine and healthcare
  • Work in teams to research, diagnose, and develop a treatment plan for simulated patients

Course Schedule:

  • First week:
      • Learn to take vital signs and perform CPR.
      • Practice key wilderness medicine techniques.
      • Visit a simulation lab used for training and evaluating medical students and faculty.
  • Second week:
      • Engage in a mass casualty incident simulation.
      • Apply skills in triaging and stabilizing victims.
  • Teaching Method:
      • Experiential learning approach for rapid engagement.
      • Instructor introduces underlying theories and concepts.
      • Hands-on experience in supporting, diagnosing, and treating patients.
  • 6 hours of Enrichment Electives

  • Graduated from Harvard Medical School with a Master of Medical Sciences in Global Health Delivery.

  • Worked as a physician with Compañeros en Salud México (CES), part of Partners in Health.

  • Completed medical training prior to joining CES.

  • Registration fee: $99

  • Emergency Medicine supplement: $250 (Included in course fee)

  • Pocket Money: We suggest an extra $100 per week.

Requirements

Criteria for Admission:

  • Vaccination Requirements: May be necessary for in-person programs, depending on university policies.

  • Academic requirements:

    • For students entering grades 9-12

    • A grade point average of 3.0 (or equivalent)

  • English Proficiency for International Students: Telephone interview or minimum test scores:

    • TOEFL: 490 (paper) or 60 (iBT).

    • Cambridge: PET-Distinction or FCE-C.

    • SAT: 450 in Reading/Writing.

  • Decisions are emailed within 7 to 10 business days after application review.
