This academic camp at UC Berkeley is the perfect gateway to UX and UI Design Hybrid Program for 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 years olds.
From design fundamentals to prototyping, and understanding user research
Students in our Hybrid program receive a truly unique, immersive experience coupling our in-person and online programs. Students will stay at our quintessential dormitories at UC Berkeley, while taking classes online from top notch staff recruited from across the globe. We will have spaces set up for students to go and attend their online class and join their classmates from around the world.
This innovative college-level course in partnership with iXperience is perfectly designed to help high schoolers gain real world knowledge and experience before committing to a Web Development path in college. You will get the opportunity to apply your newly gained skills to a hands-on project for a positive cause. While specific briefs vary from course to course, all of the projects are selected to perfectly complement the skills covered in class and enable students to make a real-world impact. Courses take place from 9am - 12pm Pacific Time 2-4 hours of homework every week day.
Students may visit Stantec, one of the world’s top-tier design engineering firms. At Mission Bay, Stantec is helping the University of California, San Francisco transform cancer care. In Golden Gate Park, they partnered to design the California Academy of Sciences, one of the world’s greenest museums. Students may get the opportunity to visit technology companies such as Thunkable and Google Geo Education. In the past, thunkable staff members described their scholastic and career journeys and the different responsibilities that they have with the team. Students also got a behind the scenes tour of Google, where they heard an insightful talk from the Google Earth Education Team.
Since we are based in Berkeley, San Francisco and Silicon Valley are also at our doorstep. We will explore the world-class resources of the entire region to expose you to one of the most innovative and exciting areas in the entire world. Additionally, we’ll enjoy the fun attractions in the vicinity. All excursions are fully supervised by Summer Springboard staff.
Summer Springboard program for high school students on the campus of UC Berkeley.
• Visit some of the most dynamic and innovative companies and organizations in Silicon Valley and across the Bay Area, such as Apple, Stanford University, and other institutions. • Explore some of the most famous landmarks in San Francisco: The Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, and more! • Cheer on the San Francisco Giants baseball team and enjoy America's favorite summer pastime. • Have fun at California's Great America amusement park featuring Gold Striker, a top-ranked wooden roller coaster.
Just like a college student at UC Berkeley, students share a dorm room with roommates and use a common bathroom. Floors are gender-segregated and rooms contain an extra-long twin size bed, desks, drawers, mirror and a closet. Your Resident Advisor (RA) will live on your hall to create a community, provide support, plan activities and help you get the most out of your stay at Berkeley. Other members of the Summer Springboard staff also live on campus and are available to support students and tackle emergencies, 24 hours a day.
All dormitories have 24-hour security and use electronic keys to enter each building and dorm room. Cal security is on 24-hour patrol and available to any student that may need assistance during the Berkeley summer program for high school students.
Your dormitory is part of a complex of buildings around a courtyard. Each building has laundry facilities, lounges and high speed wireless internet throughout. The university is committed to providing a healthy, smoke-free environment for students, faculty and staff. Accordingly, no smoking is permitted in student rooms or inside buildings, including lounges and balconies.
Most meals on campus will be at the local dining hall, conveniently located near our dormitory. We can accommodate diets such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, kosher, halal, or specific food allergies.
