The Future Doctor Programme is a two-week introductory medical course designed for students aged 12–16 who are curious about medicine, healthcare, and the science of the human body. The programme provides a structured and engaging first step into medical study, helping students understand how the body works, what happens when health fails, and how doctors care for patients in real-world settings.
Through a combination of academic study, practical simulations, and collaborative projects, students gain insight into anatomy, physiology, pathology, diagnostics, and public health. Alongside scientific knowledge, the programme introduces students to the ethical responsibilities and communication skills that define modern medical practice.
***
Students receive 15 hours of subject-specific academic instruction per week, delivered by experienced tutors through interactive, hands-on lessons. Learning balances theory with practice, encouraging students to:
Understand medical concepts through applied examples
Think critically about health and disease
Communicate ideas clearly and confidently
Work collaboratively in simulated clinical environments
A minimum English level of B1+ is recommended to support discussion, teamwork, and presentations.
***
Students explore the structure and function of the human body, examining key systems such as:
The cardiovascular system
The respiratory system
The nervous system
Through guided study and demonstrations, students learn how these systems work together to maintain health and what happens when disease or injury disrupts normal function. This module forms the foundation for all further medical learning.
***
In this practical module, students step into the role of a doctor by developing essential clinical skills, including:
Taking a patient history
Performing basic assessments
Interpreting symptoms and clinical information
Using diagnostic reasoning to work through case studies
Simulation-based activities allow students to apply scientific knowledge to realistic medical scenarios, demonstrating how theory translates into practice.
***
Medicine is explored as both a scientific and human discipline. Students examine:
Ethical dilemmas surrounding patient choice and consent
Public health decision-making
The role of research in advancing healthcare
Emerging technologies and future medical treatments
Through debate and discussion, students develop an understanding of the responsibilities and challenges faced by healthcare professionals.
***
A central feature of the programme, The Big Solutions Challenge invites students to explore major global health issues such as:
Access to clean water and sanitation
Vaccination and disease prevention
Nutrition and wellbeing
Working in teams, students design public health campaigns by identifying a health issue, researching its causes and impact, creating clear and persuasive messages, and presenting their work in a public forum. Projects are refined over time and culminate in a final showcase presented to the wider community.
***
Every student participates in Time to Shine, a structured public-speaking project that develops confidence and clarity.
Week One – Clean Water and Sanitation Campaign Students research the global impact of unsafe water and design posters, leaflets, and short presentations explaining how access to clean water prevents disease.
Week Two – Vaccination or Nutrition Campaign Students create evidence-based campaigns highlighting the importance of immunisation or balanced diets, presenting their message as if launching a real public health initiative.
Campaigns are brought to life on stage, with students presenting as public health leaders addressing a global audience.
***
Students test their ideas beyond the classroom by:
Displaying campaign materials in shared spaces
Observing real-world health behaviours such as food labelling, water use, and hygiene
Gathering feedback to refine messaging
These activities mirror how public health organisations evaluate and improve outreach strategies.
***
By the end of the programme, students will have:
A strong foundation in basic medical science
Practical experience with clinical thinking and diagnostics
Increased awareness of medical ethics and public health
Improved teamwork, communication, and presentation skills
Greater confidence discussing healthcare-related topics
***
No prior medical knowledge is required. The programme is designed to be accessible yet challenging, asking students to research complex ideas and communicate them clearly to a broad audience. Tutors provide structured guidance and continuous feedback to support every learner.
***
This programme is ideal for students who:
Are curious about medicine, healthcare, or biomedical science
Enjoy science, discussion, and problem-solving
Want early exposure to medical thinking and practice
Are considering future study in medicine or health-related fields
***
Students complete the programme with:
A clearer understanding of what it means to work in medicine
Enhanced confidence in scientific and public communication
Practical skills applicable to future academic study
A strong foundation for exploring healthcare careers

Checking whether you need a visa to attend one of our summer courses is quick and straightforward. We recommend using the UK Government’s official visa checker to confirm the requirements for your nationality.
From 2025, most visitors travelling to the UK for short-term study will need either a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).
***
If you do require a visa, the appropriate option for attending our courses is the Standard Visitor Visa.
This visa allows students to take part in short-term educational programmes in the UK.
***
Citizens of the EU, EEA, and Switzerland can continue to travel to the UK for holidays or short visits without applying for a visa. This policy remains unchanged following Brexit.
However, an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) may still be required (see below).
***
If you do not need a visa for a short stay in the UK, you may be required to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) instead.
From 8 January 2025 Eligible non-European visitors will need an ETA to enter the UK.
From 5 March 2025 Eligible European nationals will be able to apply for an ETA.
From 2 April 2025 Eligible Europeans will need an ETA to travel to the UK.
From April 2025 All visitors who do not need a visa and do not already hold UK immigration status will require an ETA.
***
Cost: £10 (expected to rise to £16 in the coming months)
Processing time: Typically up to 3 days, though some applications may take longer
We strongly recommend applying well in advance of travel.
***
Some travellers may be eligible for a digital eVisa instead of a physical visa. Eligibility and application details can be checked on the UK Government website.
