Course Description: Oxford Law Online Summer Course

Our online programmes deliver an academically rigorous curriculum led by tutors from leading universities. Through live, interactive tutorials (not pre-recorded), you will debate fundamental legal concepts, examine landmark cases, and build your own argument for a mock trial. Guided by expert tutors from leading universities such as Oxford and Cambridge, you will learn to apply legal reasoning, analyse contracts, and understand the complexities of both national and international legal systems.

Course Content & Learning Objectives

1. Discover the World of Law

  • Get to know your international cohort and tutor, establish course norms, and understand the expectations for the programme.

  • Core Concepts: Examine the fundamental concepts and principles of law, applying legal reasoning to a series of hypothetical scenarios.

2. The Philosophy of Law

  • Consider the question: "Is the law always right?" Explore the intersection of legality and justice.

  • Ethics: Discuss different ethical dilemmas and debate how the law should respond to complex social scenarios.

3. The History of Law

  • Explore different legal systems—past and present—from around the world, from ancient codes to modern statutes.

  • British Law: Analyse the key developments in British law in relation to broader British history and its global influence.

4. Human Rights Law

  • Define what constitutes a "human right" and explore the legal frameworks that protect them globally.

  • Applied Learning: Annotate the European Convention on Human Rights with your own comments, ideas, and legal critiques.

5. Corporate Law

  • Explore the legalities of the business world, focusing on contracts and corporate responsibility.

Victoria Hawley BA, BA Hons

Victoria holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Western University in Canada, where she graduated with Distinction and made the Dean's List, and a Bachelor of Arts in Law from the University of Liverpool. She has completed a prestigious traineeship at the European Court of Human Rights and has two years of professional experience as a Career Coach, supporting students in planning their future legal paths.
