Course Description: Oxford Technology & Coding Online Summer Course

Live Online Learning from Oxford

Our online programmes deliver an academically rigorous curriculum led by tutors from leading universities. We provide a structured, live learning environment where students can interact in real-time with their peers and tutors. Families can feel confident in a trusted organisation known for high teaching standards, small class sizes (maximum 15 students), and a supportive digital community.

Fascinated by how things work? Curious about the tech industry? The Online Technology & Coding Academy offers the perfect opportunity to explore key concepts in engineering and computer science from anywhere in the world.

Through live, interactive tutorials (not pre-recorded), you will experiment with coding, explore real-world applications of mathematics and physics, and build your own website. Guided by expert tutors from leading universities such as Oxford and Cambridge, you will learn the basics of web development, design electrical circuits, and understand the technologies that are shaping our future.

Course Content & Learning Objectives

1. Fundamentals of Technology

  • Get to know your international cohort and tutor, and understand what to expect from the course curriculum.

  • Tech Foundations: Discuss different types of technology, how we interact with them daily, and identify the key systems that make modern life possible.

2. Coding: HTML

  • Discover the key features of HTML, the backbone of the internet.

  • Examine real-world examples and work through practical exercises to build skill and confidence in creating web content.

3. Electronics

  • Introduce the principles of series and parallel circuits and look at the fundamental equations of electricity.

  • Applied Learning: Design your own circuit, applying your understanding of electrical systems and electromagnetism.

4. Maths for Engineering

  • Investigate the important mathematical principles that underpin engineering and computer science.

  • Learn how to set algorithms and solve engineering-related mathematical problems across various levels of complexity.

5. Spreadsheets & CODEBREAK!

  • Apply your knowledge of HTML to solve technical problems in our first "CODEBREAK!" session.

  • Learn how to create and manipulate spreadsheets, understanding how businesses and engineers use this technology to manage data and function smoothly.

6. The Future of Technology

  • Gain insight into cutting-edge areas of technology that have high relevance to today's world.

  • Discuss and present your ideas on futuristic technologies—from AI to renewable energy—and how they could shape humanity's future.

7. Introduction to CSS

  • Discover the key features of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and learn how to style and design your web content.

  • Examine examples of CSS in action and apply your knowledge in a creative coding task to improve website aesthetics.

8. Discover Rockets!

  • Explore the key engineering features and physics required to design a successful rocket.

  • Design Challenge: Design your own rocket brief, create a manual for your design, and evaluate its potential for success.

9. CODEBREAK! (Project Phase)

  • Integrate your HTML and CSS coding principles to create your own original website.

  • Present your website and ideas to the class, competing to improve the functionality and design of your digital creation.
