Lesson Plan

The camp is an award-winning academic summer school that offers programs for students aged 16 to 18 in prestigious academic institutions. The goal of this program is to give academically rigorous content that expands participants' knowledge and love for their chosen field. The program also provides young varied and essential views into what it would be like to study at university through 40 hours of academic sessions over the two week. Individual work, referred to as the "Personal Project" in this curriculum, is required. This is usually an essay or a presentation given on the last day of the program. Participants will get comments on their work, which may be included the final assessment of the participant. The Engineering curriculum is meant to develop on the scientific, math, and problem-solving abilities that participants have already acquired in a typical classroom setting and to demonstrate how these talents may be used to continue multidisciplinary study at university. Participants are encouraged to go further into new material and build their own, well-considered opinions and ideas based on solid research and experience. Participants will have a thorough awareness of not just university-level content, but also the diversity of degree programs available in engineering-related areas by the end of the program.

Example Modules

  • **Electrical Engineering: **You will apply the principles of electromagnetism to understand a range of electrical components such as digital circuits and sensors. You will then enrich your understanding by exploring digital circuits at the base of modern laptops and smartphones, addressing their limitations. The theory is then put into practice as you construct your own radio receiver.
  • Mechanical Engineering: Following a review of the key principles of kinematics and the Newtonian laws of motion, you will explore rigid body dynamics for 2D and 3D objects before exploring the engineering design of earthquake-resistant buildings and pitching your own ideas based on an in-class scenario.
  • **Material Engineering: **At the forefront of nanoscience and nanotechnology research, you will explore this fascinating and diverse field to evaluate existing materials and consider new substances at the forefront of current research. Participants will also explore how new materials are developed and tested.
  • Engineering A Solution: Participants will be presented with a known problem and asked to work in pairs to create a solution based on the engineering principles that they have encountered. They will then present their idea and demonstrate a working prototype to their peers before facing questions.
