Dive into the fascinating world of medicine while experiencing life on a U.S. university campus. This summer school for ages 15–18 introduces students to the dynamic field of medicine through a mix of lectures, case studies, and interactive academic activities.

Set in downtown Boston at Suffolk University, participants will explore modern topics in medical science, develop essential research skills, and take part in practical challenges. Surrounded by Boston’s world-class hospitals and biotech scene, this programme offers students a unique view into one of the world’s most influential healthcare hubs.

📘 What You’ll Learn

Students will explore a wide range of topics within medical science through academic sessions and hands-on activities, including:

  • 🫀 Cardiovascular Medicine – Anatomy of the heart and circulatory disorders

  • 🌬 Respiratory Medicine – The mechanics of breathing and gas exchange

  • 🦠 Immunology & Pharmacology – The body’s defences and how medicines work

  • 🧬 Genetics & Oncology – Inheritance, DNA, cancer biology, and medical ethics

  • 🧠 Neurology & Endocrinology – Nervous and hormonal systems and their disorders

  • 🧪 Medical Research & Statistics – How clinical studies are designed and analysed

Students also take part in a Personal Project where they research a medical topic and deliver a final presentation to their peers, developing public speaking and analytical skills.

👨‍⚕️ Sample Tutors

  • Dr Claire Keene

    A public health clinician and experienced clinical trial manager. She earned a Master’s in International Health and Tropical Medicine from the University of Oxford and has led projects with Médecins Sans Frontières.

  • Aakashi Bhatt: Dr. Aakashi Bhatt is a medical board-certified General Surgeon with specialist training in Robotic Surgery. After graduating in the top 1% of her MBBS class, she moved to the UK in 2015 for an MSc in Clinical Embryology at the University of Oxford and pursued a Clinical Fellowship in Robotic Surgery. Dr. Bhatt is currently a DPhil candidate at Oxford, focusing on whole genome amplification and haplotype sequencing from a small number of human cells at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine.

  • George Maier: George is pursuing a PhD in Clinical Medicine at the University of Oxford under Sir Peter Ratcliffe, Nobel Prize winner in 2019. His research focuses on acute oxygen-sensing mechanisms in humans. He holds a First-Class Masters in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry from Magdalen College, Oxford. George has also spent the past five years preparing students for various competitions and university admissions.

  • Keith Siew: Dr. Keith Siew is a Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellow at University College London, with visiting scholar roles at Université de Paris and Harvard University. A Cambridge graduate, his research focuses on kidney function and blood pressure regulation. Keith collaborates with NASA on kidney space medicine and is working on 3D imaging for kidney biopsies. He has taught pre-hospital care in Ireland, volunteered as an EMT, and serves as the Scientific Editor of Physiology News Magazine.

A Day in the Life – Boston Academic Insights

  • 8:00–9:30 – Start your day with a communal breakfast and prepare for a full schedule of learning and discovery.

  • 9:30–11:30 – Dive into a morning academic session, engaging in university-style lessons led by expert tutors.

  • 11:30–13:30 – Enjoy a lunch break, relax with friends, and reflect on the morning's session.

  • 13:30–15:30 – Continue with an afternoon academic session or participate in 1:1 tutorials and independent study.

  • 15:30–18:00 – Take part in enrichment activities such as campus tours, science museum visits, debate workshops, or local attractions like bowling or The View Boston.

  • 18:00–19:30Dinner time, often followed by themed or formal meals later in the week.

  • 20:00–22:00 – Enjoy a variety of evening socials including guest speakers, movie night, talent shows, murder mystery games, or a Red Sox baseball game at Fenway Park.

Weekend Adventures in Boston

Discover the rich history and coastal charm of Boston with a weekend full of exploration and culture. Over two days, students will experience a perfect blend of natural beauty, American heritage, and world-class art.

One day takes you to the scenic Cape Cod Peninsula, where you’ll visit the historic Pilgrim Monument and enjoy breathtaking ocean views. Wander through charming seaside towns and soak up the atmosphere of this iconic New England destination.

The other day offers a deep dive into Boston’s historic heart with a guided walk along the Freedom Trail, bringing to life key moments from the American Revolution. Afterwards, explore the renowned Museum of Fine Arts, home to an impressive collection spanning ancient to contemporary works.

Some activities are optional, so students will also have time to explore the city on their own and visit the attractions they’re most excited about. Whether you're walking in the footsteps of history or relaxing by the coast, Boston offers a weekend of enriching and memorable experiences.
