Book NowSince we are based in Berkeley, San Francisco and Silicon Valley are also at our doorstep. We will explore the world-class resources of the entire region to expose you to one of the most innovative and exciting areas in the entire world. Additionally, we’ll enjoy the fun attractions in the vicinity. All excursions are fully supervised by Summer Springboard staff. Students may visit Stantec, one of the world’s top-tier design engineering firms. At Mission Bay, Stantec is helping the University of California, San Francisco transform cancer care. In Golden Gate Park, they partnered to design the California Academy of Sciences, one of the world’s greenest museums.
Just like a college student at UC Berkeley, students share a dorm room with roommates and use a common bathroom. Floors are gender-segregated and rooms contain an extra-long twin size bed, desks, drawers, mirror and a closet.
Your Resident Advisor (RA) will live on your hall to create a community, provide support, plan activities and help you get the most out of your stay at Berkeley. Other members of the Summer Springboard staff also live on campus and are available to support students and tackle emergencies, 24 hours a day.
Meals
Most meals on campus will be at the local dining hall, conveniently located near our dormitory. We can accommodate diets such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, kosher, halal, or specific food allergies.
Pocket Money
You may want to think about bringing some extra cash with you to Summer Springboard. While your tuition covers the cost of meals and excursions, it will not cover any souvenirs you may want to pick up for family and friends or extra snacks. We suggest an extra $100 per week.

Are you interested in medicine, science and technology? Is your goal to create a life saving drug? This is a unique opportunity for high school students to gain real exposure and hands-on experience working in a state-of-the-art science lab utilizing advanced equipment. The goal of this program is to provide students intensive laboratory experience relevant to the biotechnology field, and to understand fundamental chemical processes common in prokaryotic and eukaryotic biology, and classical and molecular genetics with an emphasis on gene expression and genetic engineering. Your lab time will take place at a brand new science center equipped with the latest technology and equipment, so you’ll be among the first to have hands-on experience working with these cutting-edge instruments in a laboratory environment. In addition, you’ll be instructed by PhD candidates from the University of California Berkeley, meaning that you’ll have the guidance and support of some of the brightest minds in the field at your disposal. Your instructors from UC Berkeley include Dhruv Patel, a PhD candidate in Plant Biology who specializes in communicating the complex biology of genome engineering to diverse audiences, and Luis Valentin, a PhD candidate in Microbiology whose research interests include Genome Editing Tools and CRISPR Biology.
Students will have class in a lab, and work alongside their instructor discovering treatments for various diseases
Start with molecule design and compound creation, and follow the process to the point of in vitro biological activity
Take part in a trypsin purification program as well as grow a protein in e-coli
Learn how to isolate a protein, and see how it reacts to various compounds in an advanced research laboratory
Create a molecule, and test its biological results practicing the scientific method from hypothesis to conclusion
