UCLA, ranked as the number one public university in US, offers a huge pre college Enrichment Summer Program, including more than 20 courses taught by engaging university-level faculty, instructors, and local professionals. 

You can either dive into business, stock market, social media marketing, sports management or learn the framework of US legal system in Law course. Or you can have your camera and practice photography in a photo-friendly city, Los Angeles. Or if you are into sports, let’s surf! Or discover emotional intelligence, human rights, journalism, psychology of human behavior, community service system in Social Sciences. Or you can improve your English by taking TOEFL or English Learning courses. As I said, it is a huge buffet, bring your own plate and choose what you like to taste. 

This immersive college experience allows you to pursue your interests, discover new passions, and prepare for the next step in your academic journeys.

This is the 14-day version of this high school summer program on the campus of UCLA. Longer 21-day and 28-day versions are also available.

After enriching your life, you’ll receive a letter certifying the completion of your courses and letters of recommendation are also available..

Location

UCLA’s incredible campus situated in one of the most vibrant cities in the world, Los Angeles, and surrounded by iconic neighborhood like Beverly Hills, Westwood & Bel Air. 

Designed as a “college in a garden,” the 419-acre Westwood campus sprawls across the Santa Monica Mountain foothills and south into the Los Angeles basin. You might wonder if every building, bench and path has a story to tell. Chances are, they do. Would you like to listen?

You can also stay active with complimentary access to UCLA’s world class facilities, including gym, pool, basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton, racquetball and squash courts. There are also climbing wall and games lounge.

Course Description

Choose either a full-day track option or a morning and afternoon course. You can make your personal schedule based on your choices among 6 majors and more than 20 courses in Business, Law, Social Sciences, Creative& Applied Art, Sports and Language.

_Business Courses _

International Business & World Financial Markets: UCLA (Morning)

Examine the dynamic world of international business, globalization and how global markets work. You will learn about the international flow of goods and services, trade agreements, investment, foreign currency and regulation. You’ll be introduced to business problems and work on strategies to resolve them in the context of current events, both in the U.S. and abroad.

Social Media Marketing (Afternoon)

This course looks at the channels of marketing, advertising and communication that make up social media platforms, exploring how these tools fit into a company’s integrated marketing strategy. Using real-world examples from large corporations and small businesses, students explore how marketing professionals embrace online social networks, user-generated content and content sharing to create brand awareness. Learn tips and techniques to successfully leverage your own social media marketing.

Sports Management (Afternoon)

This course provides students with an overview of business for professional sports including finance, marketing and technology. Learn about professional sports entities that make billions of dollars entertaining people around the world. Through lectures, case studies and guest speakers, explore topics such as producing live events, broadcasting rights, athlete marketing, sponsorship, the fan experience, and sports law.

Business Intensive (Full Day)

Combine a morning business course with an afternoon business course for an intensive full-day track.

Stock Market & Investment Analysis: UCLA (Afternoon)

Before you invest in the stock market, it’s important you understand the basics of finance, the components of an investment portfolio and the underlying mechanics of the markets. This course gives you a detailed overview of investing in the stock market and offers you many tools and techniques needed to invest. Practice by investing in a simulated stock market competition.

_Law Course _

U.S. Law (Morning)

This interactive course combines an introduction to the framework of the U.S. legal system with an exploration of special topics in public policy and legal debate. Students will explore the legal foundations of political decision-making by participating in discussions, case studies, evidence-based exercises, and simulations. Learn about the scope of laws, how they evolve, and apply these lessons to current legal debates.

Social Sciences Courses

Psychology of Human Behavior (Morning)

This course introduces basic concepts in psychology including behavioral, cognitive and clinical psychology. Through the use of discussion, film and in-class activities, explore topics such as how to improve emotional intelligence, limitations in perception, cognitive distortions and how to improve memory. Other topics included are mental illness, stereotyping and prejudice.

Journalism Today (Afternoon)

Modern digital technology now enables anyone to create and distribute stories for global audiences. This development has seen the rise of citizen journalists – freelancers who report remotely or in person, outside traditional media channels. Find out the basics of catchy content for print, electronic and digital outlets, while avoiding the pitfalls of ‘fake news.’ Learn about journalism’s professional standards for gathering, processing and disseminating information. Hone your writing, editing and interviewing skills to deliver remote or in-person reports for news sites, blogs, postings and podcasts.

Emotional Intelligence & Professional Communication Skills (Afternoon)

What better way to prepare you for college and a future career than to improve your interpersonal and professional communication skills? This course allows you to develop those skills and increase your performance. Case studies include conflict management, nonverbal communication and effective listening through experiential exercises and discussions. Increase your understanding of emotional intelligence and use this ability to guide your thinking and behavior. Learn how to define personal goals and how to leverage your skills, knowledge and experience to create success in new situations.

Community Service: L.A. (Afternoon or Full Day)

Perform meaningful service in the communities in and around LA, either as a Full-Day Track or Afternoon Course option. Projects are finalized in the spring, and those currently planned involve several days working with the children at a youth club and helping to maintain and beautify gardens in local schools with Enrich LA. A letter recognizing the hours of service and detailing the projects accomplished will be issued after the summer. We are a Certifying Organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Social Justice & Human Rights Forum (Morning)

Climate change, bans on religious freedoms, racial injustice, gender-based violence… the list of human rights violations, and social and ecological injustices are seemingly endless in the world around us. Join this forum on social justice and human rights where we will explore a number of topics through a systems-thinking lens to examine why and how unequal distributions of rights and freedoms manifest. We will also consider our personal identities, positions and power within these systems challenging our ideas of how to make positive social change in the world in which we live. This forum will involve participant discussion.

_Creative & Applied Arts Course _

L.A. Digital Photography (Afternoon)

For anyone with a passion for photography, no matter your level, learn about digital cameras (shutter speed, aperture, ISO, camera modes) and the basics of composition (lighting, exposure, framing, focus and blur). Beyond the classroom, the course includes fieldwork in L.A. to delve into the art of street photography. From Venice Beach to the downtown Fashion District, explore and develop your creativity while learning and practicing technical camera skills. The course also focuses on portraiture, as you step into a professional studio to learn about different lighting techniques and hit Hollywood Boulevard to test your skills.

  • A DSLR or bridge camera with manual functions having at least a 12.0 megapixel sensor is required.

_Sports Courses _

Independent Workout (Morning or Afternoon)

Plan your workout regimen including weight training and cardio to help meet your fitness goals.

Surfing (Afternoon)

Want to hang ten and ride the waves like a pro? This course heads to Santa Monica Beach where you learn how to improve balance and technique and perfect your form in no time. All levels of ability are welcome.

_Language Courses _

TOEFL Prep (Afternoon)

This course is designed for non-native English-speaking students interested in attending an English-speaking college or university and to help prepare for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Thousands of schools worldwide rely on TOEFL scores to assist in admission decisions. Imagine the possibilities this test opens up to you as it demonstrates you have the English language skills necessary for an academic classroom. Our instructors guide you and offer you test-taking strategies, help you familiarize yourself with the test, and allow you to practice all sections of the exam.

English Language Learning (ELL) (Morning)

This program is designed to increase your overall fluency through real experiences with American culture. Improve your vocabulary and pronunciation, review proper grammatical structures, and practice your writing skills. Beyond the classroom, guided field trips provide you many opportunities to practice your English in the real world. If attending a university in the USA is one of your future goals, then this is the program for you!

Accommodation & Food

UCLA Pre College Summer School Program participants accommodate in Delta Terrace in a premium campus location, close to multiple dining halls, the Sports and Rec Center, pools, classroom and student union.

Delta Terrace, suite style residence, features double or triple rooms connected to another double or triple room with your own bathroom. Each room features your own workspace, closet space, air conditioning and Wi-Fi. 

Breakfasts on this program are served at the UCLA dining hall or students ca grab and go café at Café 1919. Dinner is either at the UCLA dining hall or at restaurants. 

Food options are varied and plentiful. The UCLA dining hall is terrific and features a different menu every night, with staples always available including a fresh salad bar, hamburgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, and pizza.

Activities and Workshops

UCLA Pre College Enrichment program is designed to balance action, adventure and excitement with structured downtime and relaxation.

You might enjoy and create IG stories in following activities.

  • Explore Universal Studios, CityWalk and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

  • Look for celebrities on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and their handprints outside of Mann’s Chinese Theater.

  • Check out the characters on Venice Beach and Boardwalk.

  • Visit Santa Monica Pier and soak up the coastal views from the world-famous Ferris Wheel.

  • Relax or play volleyball at Manhattan Beach.

  • Attend a Dodgers Major League Baseball game.

**Getting to UCLA **

The nearest airport to UCLA is Los Angeles Airport and you will be greeted upon arrival and for flights in designated times, enjoy complimentary transfer from the airport to our UCLA residence. If you prefer, you may be dropped off directly at our UCLA residence and meet your staff there.

What’s Included

Included in your program tuition is all lodging, breakfast and dinner daily, recreation & entertainment listed, day and weekend excursions, application fee, use of UCLA athletic facilities, Wi-Fi in residence, campus identification fee, courses (supplementary fees may apply for some) airport transfers in designated times, gratuities & taxes.

Not included is transportation to and from the program, lunches, snacks, personal spending money for souvenirs, and laundry. We also make available optional travel insurance that is not included, but highly recommended.
