Age Range - 12-15 yrs
The Academic Discovery course consists of 15 hours of lessons per week and is available to students of an Upper Intermediate to Advanced level of English. Students will benefit from a content-based learning approach, providing them with the opportunity to develop their English language skills through the study of other subjects. These include English Literature, Creative Writing, History, Science and Geography, and the syllabus has been designed specifically for our 12 to 15 year-old learners at SBC Canford. The communicative method to lessons provides students with a comfortable, interactive environment that aims to build on their confidence as well as language fluency.
Students with an Upper Intermediate to Advanced level of English can enroll in our Academic Discovery course, which includes of 15 hours of weekly instruction. Students will benefit from a content-based learning strategy as it will allow them to improve their English language skills while learning other subjects. The syllabus has been devised exclusively for the 12 to 15-year-old learners at SBC Canford and includes English Literature, Creative Writing, History, Science, and Geography. The communicative approach to teaching creates a relaxed, participatory environment for students to improve their confidence and language proficiency.
Academic Discovery uses a wide range of resources, from well-known works of literature to scientific case studies, to address both classic and contemporary aspects of each subject. Classroom discussions, debates, improvisation, and engaging topic-based activities are all part of the curriculum. This allows students to become more involved in the things they are studying while also improving their grasp of the language used in those subjects.
SBC believes that students learn best when they are actively using the language in real-life situations. As a result, sessions are structured to be communicative, which means that our students are continuously interacting with English. Students develop not only their language skills, but also their confidence in utilizing English in this manner.
Academic Discovery students get to use the range of subject information they've been studying each week to create entertaining and thought-provoking presentations as part of SBC's Time to Shine program. Students use a variety of 21st-century abilities in this communicative and collaborative work, which concludes in all students presenting in front of their peers.
Canford School, the 2018 'Independent Boarding School of the Year' and the 2019 'Tatler Public School of the Year,' hosts SBC Canford Summer School. Students have a genuine British boarding school experience thanks to the lovely surroundings and superb amenities. Students will enroll in an interesting academic program of their choosing. Every day, an engaging program of activities and events is organized outside of the classroom. At the school, two summer school programs are offered: a Junior course for children aged 8 to 11, and a Senior course for students aged 12 to 15.
SBC Canford Summer School students participate in a varied and enjoyable multi-activity social program that includes a variety of exciting activities in the afternoons and evenings. Students can spend time with their new friends and participate in a variety of new and interesting activities as part of the social program.
Students will participate in a multi-activity program that includes football, arts & crafts, music, and swimming, among other activities. Every afternoon, students often have a choice of over ten different activities. There will also be a number of events for the entire school, such as discos, sports tournaments, and filmmaking.
During the two-week course, students will go on three excursions to famous UK tourist cities or destinations. Our dedicated team of staff accompany the students and have a series of activities planned for the students to ensure that they make the most from their trip. During their stay, all students will visit London at least once. Our excursion destinations this summer include Bournemouth Beach, Oxford, London, and Bath.
All students reside on-campus in specially designed student housing. Each student will have their own single room with access to a communal bathroom. Boys and girls have their own private common rooms and reside in different lodging complexes. Staff also live on-site to ensure that all students have access to support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Throughout the stay, all accommodations and facilities are cleaned on a regular basis to ensure the greatest level of hygiene. All students have access to a laundry service once a week.
SBC's top goal is the safety and well-being of all kids. Summer Boarding Courses is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of children. During their time at SBC, students are housed on-site in safe and comfortable boarding homes. Their supportive staff, which includes committed and experienced welfare workers such as House Parents and Welfare Managers, is accessible 24 hours a day to assist students. All employees, volunteers, and contractors are expected to follow our extensive Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and Procedures.

The safety and well-being of all students is the top priority of SBC. Students will be accommodated in secure and comfortable guesthouses throughout their stay. A friendly and caring staff is available 24 hours a day to assist students, including House Parents and Welfare Managers.
Any course for a student under the age of 18 includes a transportation option.
