Location

Founded in 1701, Yale is the third oldest institution of higher education in the

United States. Named in Forbes Magazine as one of the ‘World's Most Beautiful College Campuses', Summer Springboard Students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in academically enthralling subjects while experiencing life on this architecturally stunning and historically famed campus.

Activities & Trips

Top: Since we are based in the heart of New England with access to the premier facilities offered by Yale University, this program will combine time in the classroom with visits around the New Haven area. Students will have the chance to experience interesting tourist and academic-related locations to help broaden their experience and expose them to one of the most exciting areas of the East Coast. Additionally, we’ll enjoy the fun attractions in the vicinity. All excursions are fully supervised by Summer Springboard staff. Students will have the opportunity to visit a local crime lab and speak to both scientists and crime scene investigators.

New York City

  • Students will venture into New York City for a day to explore the must-see sights of this thriving metropolis including Central Park, Top of the Rock, and Grand Central Station. There will also be some time for souvenir shopping.

New Haven, Connecticut

  • While best known for Yale University, the city of New Haven has a bustling pedestrian life too with its numerous shops, cafes and top-rated restaurants. Some favorite restaurants are Yorkside Restaurant, Ashley's Ice Cream, and Shake Shack. There are also world-class museums available to students, such as the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, the Yale University Art Gallery and the Yale Center for British Art.

Six Flags New England

  • Six Flags New England has over 100 rides, shows, attractions and is home to New England’s largest water park, Hurricane Harbor.

Track-Specific Excursions

  • In order to take full advantage of everything New England offers, each academic program may take their students on related trips. The goal of these trips is to augment their study and exposure to a particular subject area. Previous visits have included: Yale New Haven Emergency Department, Supreme Court, Henry C. Lee Institute, Boost Oxygen, and more.

Transportation

Summer Springboard provides an airport shuttle service for $95 each way.

Students who arrive during the flight window 

  • will be met by a SSB staff member. 

  • will wait at the airport with staff until the end of the flight window

  • will travel back to campus at the end of the flight window

Students who arrive before the flight window

  • Will not be met immediately. Students must wait at the airport until the official arrival window.

Students who arrive after the flight window

  • Will not be provided transportation to campus (with the exception of unexpected flight delays).

General Departure Info: On the last day of the program, students (who pay for the departure transfer - supplemental fee of $95) will be dropped at the airport at 10:00am, for flights departing from 12:00 and beyond. We cannot provide drop off service for flights earlier than 12pm.

Lesson Plan

Forensics is a field focused on the scientific gathering and analysis of evidence that can ultimately be utilized in the legal field. Although there are many types of forensics (accounting, psychiatry), this course will concentrate on crime scene investigations and lab science. Whether students are curious about doing crime scene investigations or want to be a forensic pathologist, this course will help them sharpen their investigative and observational skills and review a range of scientific concepts.

  • Crime scene investigations and evidence, including fingerprints, trace (hair/fiber), blood spatter and DNA analysis

  • Through crime scene investigations using evidence, including fingerprints, trace (hair/fiber), blood splatter and DNA analysis students will have the opportunity to put their newly acquired scientific and observational skills to the test. Collaborative projects such as working in teams solve crimes will also be explored.

Career Exploration

  • Forensic science is one of the most up and coming fields to explore. Crime scene examiners, medical examiners and lab technicians are just a few of the career options for those interested in Forensics. Students will have the opportunity to explore the many facets of the industry.
