In classes averaging 7 students, you will be guided by expert project leads who offer an insight into their industry. Architectural Design Development: This module will introduce you to the key principles of architectural design, from balance to rhythm, emphasis to contrast, to visual, proportion and scale. You will establish an understanding of the fundamental link between creative design, technological, environmental considerations, and social and historical context, and how these factors may influence an architectural design project.
**Architectural Design Realisation: **Your creative design skills will be pushed into the next stage of the design process in this module - the realisation of design concepts into technical details and visualizations. You will be tasked with bringing an idea to life, using architectural design software and design principles taught in the previous unit. This module is designed to challenge and advance your technical skills in the field.
**The Science of Materials: **In this module, you will be exposed to the scientific principles of materials used in architecture, engineering and construction. The goal of this unit is to build a firm understanding of the tools used in the field and the questions an architect may need to consider when pursuing a design concept.
Sustainable Refurbishment: This unit will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to identify refurbishment solutions that can improve a building’s performance, align it with future needs, and produce reports and record drawings of buildings. You will have the chance to examine current issues in relation to global warming and explore how modern architects are finding solutions to these complex problems in their designs. You will apply the knowledge and skills taught by producing your own sustainable refurbishment plan for a building of your choice.
Free-Hand Architectural Designs: Drawings are a means of communication that can solve many problems when it comes to representing an architectural space and its elements. Learn how to draw, by hand, an entire architectural design with basic graphical representations as well as different observational techniques and custom atmospheres. Floor plans, sections, facades, and different perspectives, are some of the elements you will be able to draw by the end of this module.
Introduction to Interior Design: Learn to develop an interior design project from a client’s vision to the detailed preparation of the final project. In this module, you will explore the world of interior design, form an understanding of how measurements and proportions work, as well as establishing the right criteria when selecting materials, lighting, colours, and textures for the best result.
Digital Illustrations: Ideas are brought to life in this module where you’ll learn how to portray spaces in a semi-realistic way, creating a bridge between the technical and the artistic. You will learn how to generate an illustrated presentation of an architectural project, focusing on two aspects, axonometric and pedestrian, to enable you to effectively communicate the idea behind an architectural project, with artistic flair. This part of the unit will inform your personal project as you build digital designs that will be a part of a design portfolio.
