Discover, experiment, and think like a real scientist this summer!
Welcome to Headington Oxford Summer School, an inspiring academic experience for students aged 12–16 on Oxford’s beautiful campus. This two-week residential programme combines English language learning, science exploration, cultural excursions, and fun activities — creating an unforgettable summer filled with discovery and growth 🌿.
Students can choose between traditional English Language classes or English Through Academic Subjects, where science, creativity, and communication come together. Classes are limited to a maximum of 15 students, ensuring personal attention and lively group interaction. Each week includes 15 hours of tuition, plus excursions, sports, and evening events — all leading up to the Time to Shine showcase, where students present what they’ve learned.
The Future Scientists course is designed for curious young minds who want to explore biology, chemistry, and physics in action. Through hands-on experiments, guided research, and collaborative projects, students discover how science explains the world around us — and how they can apply it in real life 🌍.
They’ll learn to plan experiments carefully, record data accurately, and analyse results critically, just like real researchers. Alongside this, they’ll explore modern scientific developments and discuss the ethical and social questions that arise from innovation — encouraging thoughtful and responsible curiosity.
Collaboration is at the heart of the programme 🤝. Working in teams, students tackle challenges that test both creativity and logic, reflecting how true scientific progress depends on teamwork as much as individual insight.
By the end of the two weeks, each student will have:
✅ A stronger grasp of key scientific principles
✅ Improved practical lab and presentation skills
✅ Confidence to approach science at school, university, and beyond
Module 1: Life and Living Systems
🧬 Explore the fascinating world of biology — from cell structures to complex ecosystems.
Students investigate respiration, growth, and adaptation, while learning how human activity impacts the environment. Lab work builds observation, data collection, and analytical skills.
Module 2: Matter, Reactions and Energy
⚗️ Dive into the world of chemistry and physics!
Discover what matter is made of, how reactions happen, and how energy moves through systems. Students experiment, measure, and connect scientific concepts to real-world applications.
Module 3: Earth, Space and Scientific Frontiers
🌌 Look beyond the lab to the forces shaping our planet and universe.
From geology and space exploration to the latest discoveries in science, this module gives students a glimpse of the cutting-edge frontiers of human knowledge.
Each two-week session includes three full-day excursions to some of the UK’s most famous destinations.
